When I began searching “tennis shoe birthday party” on Pinterest, all I could come up with were high heels or tennis shoes & tutus (apparently that’s a thing) – neither of which provided for much inspiration for my little boy’s 1st birthday. Admittedly, sneakers as a theme is a little random, but shoes are kind of one of Henriks’ favorite things. He has been into shoes for as many months as I can remember – and by “into” I mean, he loves to chew, carry and play with shoes, despite us constantly taking them away.
You know I love a good theme when it comes to kids parties and I thought tennis shoes would be something fun and different. Of course, Etsy totally saved me when I came across these invites to set the tone for his party.
The orange and blue were perfect for a lot of reasons – Andris’ alma mater is the University of Illinois, also orange and blue; the local high school, and Dris’ other alma mater, is also orange and blue; and in a stroke of pure luck, the room we held the party in at the local community center – The Orange Room – kept it color coordinated right down to the paint! This Etsy shop made the details easy – providing artwork for cupcake toppers, birthday bunting, water bottles and goodie bags.
With unpredictable April weather we rented out a gym for the kids to run around in, followed by pizza and cupcakes. It was simple and fun and a perfect way to celebrate our favorite guy who keeps us running these days….even if he wasn’t very into his cupcake 🙂
I can hardly believe that a year has already passed since we welcomed Henriks Peter into our family. He has added such joy to our lives, it is hard to remember life without him. While 1st birthdays are always a little bittersweet for me because that first year just seems to fly by, my heart just bursts with love and happiness when I can catch up with him enough to sneak in extra snuggles and kisses. Henrik, you are amazing and we love you so much. Daudz Laimes! Happy 1st Birthday!
